Our final league match of the season took us to The Burstead golf club in Essex. Located just off A127 to Southend, it is a very well maintained course. Not overly long at 6,300 yards, it was however, a tricky course, with both internal out of bounds and hard to view cross ditches, most of which were at driving distance! We had a strong side but Essex turned up with 6 players we'd never seen before, and they proved to be the difference. An indication of the change in Essex personnel was shown by the fact that they beat Hertfordshire earlier this year.
Apart from a couple of heavy defeats for Alan Wright (who drew England international Geoff King for the 2nd time) and Peter Jones, we performed very well. Another win for Phil White, in what looked to be a bit of a scrappy match, gave him a played 3 won 2 record for the season! Well done Phil! A fighting 1 up win for Rob Westgate was well received by the team. Clive Allen and Tim Bevan both got good halves, with Tim being really unlucky not to win his match.
My thanks to all the guys for another fighting performance. Although defeat is hard to take, our team spirit is second to none and we will practice and prepare well for the 2015 season.
