Sunday 6th July saw Bedfordshire host Hertfordshire in a league match at South Beds Golf Club.

The weather was cloudy with overcast conditions as the two teams teed off in the morning foursomes. Paul Kenna and Scott Armitage led the way for Bedfordshire in the closest of the four morning matches. This was a great game with both sides fluctuating from one up to all square to one down, nothing in it the whole match, but Hertfordshire managed to hold on to take the first point one up.

Bradley Finch and Sam Flannery combined very well, holing some great putts using Sam’s local knowledge and always led finally winning 3-2.

The Millbrook pairing of Jack Leek and Jack Hawksby held firm in their match over the front nine but the Hertfordshire lads managed to pull away at the crucial stage of the game winning 2-1. At 2-1 down it was vital for us to take something from the last match and the young pairing of Luke Charnley and Harry Boyle did not disappoint, taking a great win against a very strong Hertfordshire pairing 4-3.

2-2 At lunch. Finally we had managed to hold our own in the foursomes and not go into the afternoon singles behind.

Bradley Finch led the way for Bedfordshire but never quite got into his great recent form, always chasing his game and losing 4-3. Luke Charnley up next and although ahead early on, he also missed out on a point going down 2-1. A fight back required and a great fight back we got from our next two matches.

Scott Armitage produced his first singles point for Bedfordshire with a solid performance winning 3-2. Next came Jack Hawksby with the performance of the day trailing 2 down at the turn he produced some fantastic golf on the back nine to take another 3-2 win for his team.

So 4-4 over all with four singles matches left on the course, but not for long as Sam Flannery produced an early finish with a massive 7-6 win and another point for Bedfordshire.

However once again we could not manage those last few points to take a win, with Paul Kenna losing 2-1, Harry Boyle 3-2 and Jack Leek 4-3 yet another 7-5 defeat, a popular score line for us this year. Although a defeat another promising team performance, with a relatively young team, taking on a strong established Hertfordshire side and taking them very close.

A great effort and if they can carry on progressing as they are it won’t be long before we get on the right side of those 7-5 results.

Our thanks go to South Beds Golf Club for hosting yet another fixture at their club.

Dave Weedon.

First Team and Colts’ Manager.
