Match report
It pains me to write this, but we must have bad times to appreciate the good. Stuart Goode said our rallying call should be “remember the foursomes at Aspley”! So in the future we will.
BB&O again invited us to The Berkshire, which was in absolutely first class condition. A few quick, heavy showers just as we began failed to spoil the day. And, although it remained cloudy, we had no more rain, so we can't blame the weather!
This has to be the strongest side we have met in years. Six of their team represented their county in the recent SEG 6 man team qualifier at Thorpeness, and won comfortably, beating the traditionally successful counties of Kent and Hertfordshire. Their top 3 are due to be selected for England honours this year so we knew it would be tough. To give you an indication of how tough, John Haines completed his round against one of the three David Niven, shooting a gross 75. Whereas his opponent shot a gross 67, four under!
Only one special mention on a day of losses. Phil White again put in a tremendous performance against BB&O for the 2nd year in a row. His match with George Wilson going to the final green. They were all square as Phil's approach found the greenside bunker and George put his 2nd 30ft from the pin at the back of the green. Phil hit a great bunker shot coming out to 4ft from the pin. George putted down to 2ft, sadly Phil's par putt lipped out and George closed out the match holing his par putt.
Everyone gave of their absolute best and will take heart and encouragement for competing against a tremendous team. We now look forward to hosting Hertfordshire in our final league match of the season at Leighton Buzzard.
