Our third league match of the year was hosted by Bedford & county GC. On a calm sunny day we entertained Middlesex, who always put out a strong team and offer a very competitive match.

Unfortunately out first two matches went the wrong way, with John Haines finding his opponent on top form. The balance was redressed by two good results from Tim and Colin bringing us back to all square. Gordon started his county seniors career with a bit of a beating at the hands of Andy Hills, but we were soon back on level terms with my 6&5 win over the Middlesex Captain Tom Powell. Unfortunately, Middlesex had a late withdrawal and so match 7 became a walkover. Mick also found his opponent too hot to handle but the old boy Jonesy still had a bit left in his locker and put us in front with a good win. Even with the walkover we were still only 5 – 4 up and a draw would have been disappointing. I purposely selected Rob at no. 10 as they always play Mark Stanton last and he's a strong player, who has nicked points from us consistently in the past. I felt we had a good chance with Rob bringing up the rear. Although he got a good half that gave us the win, Rob was disappointed as he was 2 up with 3 to play.

A good win that will give us confidence going into our final league match away to Hertfordshire.
