Our final league match of the season took us to Hendon GC to play Middlesex. Historically, fixtures show that home or away, this is our closest match of the year, and 2017 proved no exception! As with all of our league matches this year, this was another tight affair resulting in a narrow defeat 6 – 4.

Hendon GC is a very nice layout with small, tricky greens, and I think ultimately, they are what cost us the match. Everybody said they thought they were both difficult to read and hard to get the right pace. No excuses though, home advantage was well used by our opponents.

Well done to the John O’ Gaunt triumvirate of Peter Dobson, Phil White and Paul Wharton, who contributed three of our points. Our newest recruit Dave Banwell, made it two out of two with a good 2&1 win. Sadly, we couldn’t pinch another point between us to give us the draw, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

So, we’ll look forward to having home advantage against Middlesex next year and returning the favour!
