MIDDLESEX V BEDFORDSHIRE MATCH REPORT – MUSWELL HILL GOLF CLUB

What a satisfying yet strange feeling it was as we returned to competitive golf. Bedfordshire travelled to Muswell Hill Golf Club for the 1st fixture of the season with a very new looking team. A blend of youth and some familiar faces.

Up front Aiden Abbott took on the Middlesex No1 Jack Neill, Aiden was 2 up throughout most of the match but 3 birdies in 4 holes towards the end saw the Middlesex player edge Aiden 2up.

No2 saw Jack Manley take on Justin Phelps, an up and down match with Jack fighting to hold on but Justin finished the match with a 35ft birdie on the 16th for a 3&2 win.

No3 saw Scott Armitage taking on Liam Cella (new addition to Middlesex). Scott was in control of the match throughout but a very unusual unforced error from Scott saw him loose the the 17th leaving the match in the balance going up 18. Both players only managed a bogey with the match ending with half a point each.

No4 saw Morgan Darnell taking on Will Oritage (new addition to Middlesex) Will played exceptional golf on the front nine with numerous birdies and held on to a 4&3 victory.

No5 saw Arnav Arkanath making his debut against Kane Stone. What a match this was, Arnav was two down after 5 and then the fireworks started. 6 birdies were to follow from Arnav including 3 twos on the par threes. Arnav finished the game on the 17th for a Two Up victory.

No6 saw Joe Kirby also making his debut against Michael Peak. Things were looking gloomy for Joe finding himself 4 down after 8. A brilliant birdie on 9 gave him a glimmer of hope. Joe then blew his opponent away on the back nine winning a great match 2&1.

No7 saw Paul Kitchen take on Daniel Parsons. An exceptionally steady match with the game never more than 1 or two up to either player. The game came down to the 17th with Paul 1 down and both players down the middle of the fairway. Paul came just up short of the green. Daniel hit a brilliant approach to about 6 foot and closed the game on Paul with a 2&1 victory.

No8 saw Paul Kenna take on Middlesex Captain Niall Keogh – with both players birdieing the first it looked like this was going to be some game. Well, after 7 holes Paul was 4 under par and two down!! That’s not where the fireworks ended. Going down 17 PK was 7 under par and the game all Square. Both players must of felt the pressure going up 18 with both hitting not their best tee shots. Paul could only manage a bogey 5 but with his opponent in all sorts of trouble he had to make a very tricky 4-5ft braking put to half the match. Niall calmly rolled it in and an exceptional match ended in a half. Well played gentleman.

A touch of class from Niall coming over to thank the Bedforshire team who all stayed out to watch the conclusion of the match.

On this occasion the team came up short with an overall 5-3 loss.

We would like to thank Neil from Middlesex and Muswell Hill Golf Club for hosting us and their hospitality.

We now move on to the next match at home v Essex on Sunday 30/05/21.
