Beadlow Manor are runners up in Junior Team Golf England Final

Bedfordshire’s Tavistock Trophy winners Beadlow Manor were runners up in the England Final of the 2016 Junior Team Golf competition.  The event is designed to find the best Junior team in the country and accordingly invites all the finalists of individual county events to enter.  Four or five teams (6 players per team) compete at each venue with a tough format of 5 from 6 scores (one gross, four nett) counting for a team aggregate.  Beadlow Manor initially won their first regional event at East Berkshire by 5 shots beating East Herts, Windlesham and Burhill to qualify for the Northern Super Regional at The Hallamshire.  The team of Luke Charalambous (hcp 4), Conner Penning (hcp 4), Jamie Gibbons (hcp 5), Ben Loveard (hcp 11), Lewis Vereecque (hcp 16) and Jack Munson (hcp 18) made the trip north and took on some stiff opposition including Kirby Muxlow and Longcliffe, and an even tougher golf course, but managed to secure the win by just 2 shots to qualify for the England Final. 

The Final was played at Studley Wood in Oxfordshire on Sunday 23 October with 2 teams from the North East (Hexham and Whitley Bay), one from Hampshire (Romsey) and one from Surrey (Cuddington ) joining Beadlow Manor.  With TV cameras filming both pre-match interviews with selected players and Junior Organisers and everyone’s first tee shots, there were plenty of nerves beforehand, but the same Beadlow team all kept their focus to play some excellent golf in a gusty wind on a course with some tricky greens.  Penning led the line with a superb 1 under par 72, and nett scores of 74, 71, 70 and 76 from Charalambous, Gibbons, Loveard and Munson, respectively posted a very competitive 363 total.  Following a nervy wait Beadlow Manor were duly announced runners up to Cuddington, who won by 6 shots. Both teams are now invited to travel to a continental venue (likely Spain) next March to represent England in the Home International Finals against the Champions and runners up from Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
