Bedfordshire County Golf

England Golf South East Mens' County Qualifier

On Friday 7t July Bedfordshire took a team of six to a fantastic Sheringham Golf Club who were hosting the England Golf men’s qualifier.

Practice on the Friday afternoon went well with all six players posting reasonable scores whilst having a good look at the course which was in great condition.

Saturday was a comfortable temperature with a stiff breeze coming in off the sea, the costal run of holes proved quite difficult.

Harry Boyle was stand out performer for Bedfordshire posting 1 under in the morning and 3 under in the afternoon, a fantastic effort 4 under for the day, giving him a joint 3rd in the individual event.

Jack Hawksby finished +5 for the day after striking the ball very well but was unable to convert many of the chances he gave himself on the greens.

Norman Cilliers also with +5 for the day, Norman hit it steady but very few makeable birdie chances came his way, still, a very good 36 holes of golf.

The team from left to right: Norman Cilliers, Harry Boyle, Scott Armitage (Capt), Jack Leek, Jack Hawksby, Seb Lovell.

Sebastian Lovell deserves great credit making his county debut in this very tough format, Seb shot a very good +2 in the morning and a +5 in the afternoon unfortunately dropping most of these on the last 5 holes but for his first event he should be very pleased, Seb will be a great addition to our first team squad.

Team Captain Scott Armitage battled extremely well, having a few swing problems off the tee made scoring difficult but Scott managed a +4 and +5 for a +9 for the day.

Jack Leek was the last member of the team and for Jack it proved to be a very difficult day, a combination of bad luck and problems with his game took Jack to +12 and +13, no words could console, but Jack is a strong character and he will be back playing top level golf for Bedfordshire without a doubt.

Even with the one high score we still managed to come 10th in the team event, they all tried their very hardest but some days it just does not happen.

With just 14 rounds under par out of 132 and Harry having 2 of them, I feel we should still take positives from the event.
