Bedfordshire Ladies County player Caitlin Thomas goes forward to play in the NASUWT National Championship at Sherwood Forest GC, Nottinghamshire on the 24th of June.
Buckinghamshire hosted this year’s NASUWT S.E Schools Championships at Flackwell Heath GC, near High Wycombe. The course proved to be a good test with many holes using the contours across the valley and attractive, yet challenging, elevated par 3’s that made the contest a close encounter from start to finish.
The Bedfordshire Schools team looked short-handed at the start of the day, with Chanel Fontaine-Geary having moved schools to play for Buckinghamshire, Jessica Sporle playing for Cambridgeshire, Roisin Scanlon not available (in Scotland) and Luca Thompson having left Sharnbrook, the team comprising of Caitlin Thomas and Estelle Klausner gave a good account of themselves.
Two highlights in the opening round, Caitlin Thomas (Sandy Upper and John O’Gaunt GC) was consistent throughout opening with a 74, whilst the spectator shrieks of joy reached back to the clubhouse as Estelle eagled the 1st par 4 hole, having started on the 13th earlier in the morning! Caitlin’s playing group had a battle throughout the 36 holes as they were all amongst the leading scores at lunchtime all on 75, but Estelle ‘s 80 (nett 69) put the team in a very creditable lunchtime position.
Caitlin Thomas played extremely well to finish 2nd on countback as her 3 ball group had the leading three players only separated on the 36th green with a birdie to win the title. Caitlin also goes forward to Sherwood Forest.
A busy schedule for 16 year old Caitlin prior to this event as she represents Bedfordshire Ladies at the East Region Inter County Finals held at Aspley Guise GC starting June 17 to June 21st. It’s a must watch. A prestigious event that will host the best amateur golfers in England.
