Bedfordshire’s First Team welcome Essex to a beautifully presented Aspley Guys Golf Club on the 30th June.

This was the first home game for the 1st team and the first time hosted by Aspley. The course was presented in exceptional condition and we would like to thank all involved at the club.

No1- Aiden Abbott took on the very consistent Ben Humphrey. With a couple of unforced errors around the turn, a very tight match saw Ben pushing on and despite a great birdie two on the 15th  by Aiden saw Essex win the match 3&2. Another solid performance from Aiden going out at No1.

No2 – Jack Manley took on the In form player Jack Garnett. Unless you were there watching, no one will understand the great golf Jack played but was unfortunately up against a man that could do no wrong. A great game to watch. Essex won the match 4&3. As they say, “no pictures on the scorecard”

No3 – Scott Armitage took on Brandon Meads. A very tight match with solid golf played by both players. Scott did all he can to get the match back to 1 down with two to play. But a tricky putt missed on the 17th saw Brandon win the match 2&1. A 3-0 lead for Essex early on.

No4 – Morgan Darnell took on Mr Essex Andy May. Morgan played some of the best golf he’s played for the County and raced to a 3up lead. Andy rolled in a long birdie putt on the tricky 7th to win one back. Morgan kept on fighting to keep his lead but an unforced error off the tee on 16 saw Andy back to all square with two to play. A half on 17 with pars saw the game going up 18. Andy kept his nerve and saw the game going Essex’s way 1up. 4-0 to Essex.

No5 – Joe Kirby took on the Essex Captain Ricky Lee. This County golf must seem easy for Joe as he was in full control of the game from the start. Brilliant aggressive golf on his home course saw him never down in the match. A strong comeback from Ricky on the back nine saw the game all- square with 1 to play. Joe went all out for it on the par 5 18th and made a great tricky birdie put to win the match 1up. 4-1 to Essex.

No 6 – Arnav Arkanath took on the mighty Ross Dee. This young man is going from strength to strength with no fear in his game. Arnav started like a house on fire and was 4 up in no time. Great golf from both players throughout the match and once both players birdied the tough 15th, Arnie kept his head in from to make it two out of two wins for the 1st team. Well played young man. 4-2 to Essex.

No 7 – Paul Kenna took on Joe Tatam. Following up from his great performance against Middlesex, Paul took off like a man possessed and was 6 under par through 10 holes. A fightback from Joe on the back nine saw Paul two up with two to play. Paul wont the hole with a par for a great 3&1 victory. 4-3 to Essex and game on!

No 8 – Rob Sutton took on Harry Butler. A welcome return to County golf for Rob. Unfortunately Rob was up against a man on fire. With Birdies galore, Rob found himself 6 down after 9. A brief comeback from Rob looked on the cards but Harry closed the game out 4&3 and that point gave Essex a 5-3 victory.

A brilliant County match with Bedfordshire pushing the Mighty Essex all the way. Final result. Bedfordshire 3 Essex 5.

A special thank you from both teams must go to Gary Brandon for his organisation, course presentation and starting the match.
