Assistant Course Raters Needed

Assistant Course Raters Needed

An important part of the Union's role locally is to re-rate all our golf courses to the new USGA rating standard, and the ambitious England Golf target is to complete this project by 2020. Once complete it is likely we can move to the 'slope' system for handicaps. Previously the USGA system only rated according to the play of a scratch golfer, but now 'normal' handicap golfers are considered.

Working as part of a small team under the guidance of an experienced course rater, assistants are required to visit the course and to assist with measurements from various points to landing zones, hazards, obstacles etc. This data is then used to compile the course rating statistics which have to be approved by England Golf. Course Ratings should take about the time it takes to play a round of golf and are done by agreement with the Golf Clubs so can be midweek or sometimes weekend afternoons. A small, fixed allowance towards travel expenses is payable once a rating is completed.
