Annabel Pitts retains her title as Beds Ladies County Champion
On Thursday 11th May at the Bedfordshire GC, the Ladies County Championship tournament started with a 36 hole medal qualifier where the top 16 went through to Friday's knockout & into Saturday's semi & final stage to find our Champion for 2017. Sophie Hillier won the 36 hole stroke play & Katriona Close won the 36 hole net score & Dalton Salver prize.
After excellent golf & well fought close matches on tricky greens the last 16 played on Friday with some very close matches, we had our semi-finalist for Saturday 13th May.
The semi-final matches were equally gripping with Sophie Hillier taking Sally Shayler to 3rd extra hole to reach the final. Sophie Mills & Annabel's Pitts match also went to the 18th hole, where Annabel triumphs. This was epic & classy golf to watch.
After 3 days of tough battles & fantastic golf from all the qualifiers, Bedfordshire County Champion for 2017, and retaining her title for a second year is Annabel Pitts from Beadlow Manor. Sophie Hillier should be very proud as she played excellent golf from start to finish but the putts did not roll for her in the final. Both Annabel & Sophie have worked extremely hard this winter, attending most of the County training & practice matches plus their gym work. This was evident with their ball striking & standard of golf played.
Annabel will now go through to represent Bedfordshire to find England's County Champion of Champions Tournament on the 16th September 20177 at Woodhall Spa Golf Club. We wish Annabel the best of luck.
All our finalists played extremely well and we should be very confident going into East Region Finals at Hunstanton GC starting June 19 - June 23 with a strong squad.
