Junior Golf in Bedfordshire

Why Play Golf

Golf is a fantastic sport for young people to start because it really is a game for life. From 4 to 94, it's a sport that provides a challenge, competition, social engagment as well as being great for both physical and mental wellbeing. To understand more watch Ladies European Tour player Charley Hull & Co talk about how and why they started.

Golf Foundation's Role

The Golf Foundation has two main aims.

1.    Providing any young person, regardless of background or ability, with the opportunity to
enjoy golf and the benefits it has to offer.

2.    Helping any young person to ‘Start, Learn and Stay’ in golf, providing a player pathway
        into golf clubs.

To achieve this the Golf Foundation delivers through HSBC Golf Roots. Golf Roots is an inititaive that supports the foundations aims by visiting schools and community centres to promote and engage golf for young people.

Junior Golf Passport

HSBC Golf Roots is the Golf Foundation's national programme to enhance the lives of young people through playing golf.

Within that, the Junior Golf Passport is the national structured learning programme for children aged 6-12 years, endorsed by the PGA. The multi-layered programme progresses a complete novice golfer into a junior golfer ready for membership at a golf club.

The programme has 3 key levels: START, LEARN and PLAY. The START level is all about fun and an elementary introduction to golf. The LEARN level is a move towards technical instruction through games based learning, always with the emphasis on fun. The PLAY level teaches the child to apply their learning to the golf course, preparing them for potential club membership and competition. However, access to the golf course and playing golf on a course are important features of the Junior Golf Passport from the START in order to develop a real connection to golf.
