Junior Coaching Programme begins

The new Bedfordshire County Coaching Programme, which was delayed from March due to the COVID-19 restrictions, finally began on Sunday 6th December 2020.

The U18 group (seen below) was at Bedfordshire GC being coached by Gary Munro, assisted by Mike Lake, and the U14s were at Luton Hoo GC where they were coached by Craig Ferris and Sam Filipczak.

The weather at both venues was unpleasantly foggy and bracingly cold. Not a good day for range work but both sets of youngsters were keen enough to endure the conditions. These first sessions were meant to be about the players and their coaches getting to know each other in addition to conducting some gapping analysis. In both cases this was disrupted by the weather which prevented us from getting onto the course but with some imagination some interesting short game (competitive) drills were set up for the U18s. The U14s focussed on putting techniques and green reading (see below) and were treated to some interesting tips form the coaches.

Everyone appears to have been pleased with the session. The coaches were excellent. We have limited the size of the squads to ensure the appropriate player to coach ratio and this has also allowed us to comply with the COVID restrictions. The coaches are already working on the session plans for January.
