Bedfordshire County Golf

SEG County Qualifier ends early

Bedfordshire travelled to Crowborough Beacon Golf Club, Sussex, to compete in England Golf South East Group Mens County qualifying. 11 Counties take part with all six players scores to count over 36 holes of medal play.

The tournament was unfortunately curtailed as a result of waterlogged greens following heavy prolonged rain. However, Suffolk emerged as winners for the first time ever and now go forward to represent the South East Group in the County Finals which are being held at Beau Desert Golf Club, Staffordshire from the 28th to 30th September 2012. The staff and Officials at Crowborough Beacon had worked extremely hard to get the course fit for play in the very wet conditions that we've all experienced recently, but the prolonged, heavy downpour at lunchtime brought a premature end. Whilst some players had completed their first round, many had six holes to complete, and, with the local forecast not suggesting any improvement, the competition was decided over just 12 holes when it was clear that no more play would be possible on the day.

The Bedfordshire team of Rob Sutton & Mark Carter (Dunstable Downs), Gavin Samuels & Matt Hill (Leighton Buzzard) and Miguel Moitas and Blane Breheny (South Beds) finished in joint 7th place.
