Match Report Bedfordshire v Cambridgeshire.

On Sunday 22nd March Bedfordshire hosted Cambridgeshire at Dunstable Downs Golf Club in our first friendly of the season.

The experienced pairing of Paul Kenna and Jack Leek led the way in the foursomes, up against a very strong Cambridgeshire pair but their best efforts were in vain losing 5/4. Luke Charnley and Harry Boyle forged a great partnership towards the end of last season and carried on where they left off with a great 4/3 win. Bradley Finch and Norman Cilliers, making his debut, battled superbly to come back from three down to take a great half on the last. Reece Blair and Jack Hawksby also fought to the last also taking a well-deserved half on the last.

So into the singles all square 2-2, the team, for once, not behind after the morning foursomes.

Reece Blair took the honour for Bedfordshire and came up against a very in form James Reason.Reece started with three birdies in a row but this only gave him a one up lead and this was the only time he would be in front finally losing 5/3. Bradley Finch equalled it up again taking his opponent all the way and finally winning the last for a one up win.

Harry Boyle who was four down after five also went to the last but narrowly missed out losing one down. Jack Hawksby also battled back from three down at the turn to win the last and take a half. Paul Kenna on his home course managed another come back winning seventeen and eighteen to half another match.

Jack Leek had another great match he had to win the last for his point and did just that. Luke Charnley was always in control of his game winning on the sixteenth for a great 3/2 win. So at this point Bedfordshire could not lose the match, Norman Cilliers needed just a half to give Bedfordshire a win. His match had gone backwards and forwards, no one taking total control and again the eighteenth was the deciding hole but this time to the benefit of Cambridgeshire, Norman just losing out on the last.

All square in the morning and all square in the afternoon 6-6 final result, but what a match with two of the foursomes and six of the singles all going to the last. The Bedfordshire lads should take great credit for a battling performance with six of the eight man team under the age of nineteen the future is starting to look a little brighter.

We look forward to the next friendly at Cold Ashby Golf Club v Northants on April 12th.

Our thanks to Dunstable Downs for hosting this fixture.
