The 3rd annual Bedfordshire Seniors v Bedfordshire Colts match was held once again at The Bedford Golf Club on a very hot and sunny St George's Day.

The scorched fairways added run on the ball which played into the hands of our Seniors and made for a very competitive match. Rob Sutton & Alex Harris led the way in the top match and for most of the match were 2 down. However, they won five out of the last six holes to secure a 2 up win. Graham Crawford, however, played some exquisite iron shots hitting two approach shots within 'gimme' range.

Match 2 saw the inform Matt Hill teamed with big hitting Nick Cunningham. Despite Clive Allen trying to talk Nick out of the game, the Colts were too strong winning 3 & 2. Peter Jones hit some huge drives with his G15 Driver proving regular shafts really work if you swing it well!

Match 3 was a classic 'nip & tuck' match with never more than one hole in it. Charlie Snelling putted superbly all day & Steve Montague was really enjoying the tussle hitting some solid shots under pressure. Both pairs had putts on the 18th green to win the game but in the end an honourable half was a fair result. Connor Boyle is developing nicely & Simon Scully's power continues to intimidate opponents.

Match 4 saw the seniors go with Harry Williams & Phil Corke - experienced personified - as both are practically full time golfers & very competitive. Our Colts pairing of Tom Munkley & Michael Conybeare, however, proved too strong winning 6 & 4 by playing solid golf throughout the match. Lessons learned from the match is that 'an old dog can still hunt'.

The Senior players are extremely competitive and their love for competition and the game of golf is obvious. I would like to thanks Pete Jones and his team for this fixture and I hope ii continues to be played in future years. Thanks also to the Bedford Golf Club who presented a superb course and looked after us with great catering post match. Bring on 2012 - No shots or holes up for the Seniors though!!
