On Saturday 2nd May, Bedfordshire Colts played their first of 3 triangular league matches at Boyce Hill Golf Club Essex.

The combination of a cold wind and firming ground gave challenging playing conditions around the short ( Par 68 ) course. Good course management from the tee and par scores would prove to be key to the success of the matches.

Beds top pairing Harry Boyle and Luke Charnley, set the scene for a very good morning foursome performance from the Beds team, the guys winning both their matches  which also saw them recover from 4 down position after 8 to win on the last hole from their Herts opponents. Beds 2nd pair debutants Ryan Smith and Tom Mead also gave a very creditable performance seeing both their matches finish on the last green, narrowly losing to a long birdie putt from Herts and earning a well deserved 1 up win against a strong Essex pair.

Then after Bradley Finch and Sam Flannery gained another halve point in the 3rd match,  the two Jack's - Hawksby and Leek- played solid golf  all morning to add another 2 points to an impressive morning's performance.

In the afternoon singles, Bradley Finch led from the top of the order comfortably winning both his matches 3 &1 and 4 & 3 In another fine performance in the 3rd match saw Jack Hawksby play two exciting matches with Jack holing two 6 footers on the last 2 greens to close out his opponents. At this stage  Beds were now 3 points ahead of both of our County opponents  with  5 matches to be concluded.

Beds remained unbeaten in their last 5 singles matches against Herts, which included good wins  from Harry Boyle, Jack Leek and Sam Flannery which gave Beds a comprehensive victory.  Match Result BEDS 8.5 HERTS 3.5.

Essex have a very talented youth side which showed through in their strong finish and despite some close end matches Beds were unable to secure the points they needed for double victory.  Match Result BEDS 5 ESSEX 7

Overall,  a good demonstration of high level golf from the Beds players which gives great encouragement for the season ahead.
