Match Report.

Sunday 10th May saw Bedfordshire host their first league match of the season v Middlesex at The Millbrook Golf Club.

The newly formed pairing of Scott Armitage and Michael Round led the way for Bedfordshire and looked a strong, comfortable pairing. They never really looked in danger of gaining anything other than a win and a good solid win it was 5 and 4.

Jack Leek and Jack Hawksby, out at two, never really gelled or really got going, they went down to a 5 and 4 defeat.

Paul Kitching and Mark Yeomans at three looked comfortable over the front nine but the Middlesex pairing came back at them with some great golf over the back nine. The match went to the last and to an honourable half for both sides.

The pairing of Norman Cilliers and Bradley Finch have worked well together in the friendlies this year and they continued their good form, taking another point, 2 up in a very good match.

At lunch Bedfordshire were leading 2.5-1.5 so a good morning overall. We, as a team, finally look like we have some strong foursomes pairings able to compete and win.

The team had high hopes for the afternoon, four points would secure a win.

Norman took the honour for Bedfordshire and played his part in a great opening match, going all the way to the last but not in our favour. Norman losing by one hole.

Jack Hawksby at two could not find his rhythm after the morning defeat and he always trailed his very experienced opponent losing 5/4.

Michael Round, back playing after some five years out of the County set up, battled hard in his match but again lost out on the last.

Not the start we were looking for, still four points desperately needed.

Paul Kitching at four at least stopped the rot, he took his game to the last again and managed to salvage a half, holing out well to secure his share of the spoils.

We needed a run of wins now, if we were going to get anything from the match, but Scott Armitage at five could not help, losing 2/1.

Good news followed with Jack Leek and Mark Yeomans both winning their matches 2 up and 3/2 respectively, but with Bradley Finch already losing to the Middlesex anchor man, the race was run.

Bedfordshire losing 7-5. Great credit to the Middlesex lads for their performance in the singles.

We must take the positives from the foursomes with us to Seacroft this coming weekend and continue the improvement from last year.

Our thanks go to The Millbrook Golf Club for all their efforts in hosting this fixture.
