Bedfordshire's second pre season match took place on Sunday 10th April 2011 against Northants at Kettering Golf Club for the Highfield Trophy.

Once again Bedfordshire had a good mix of youth and experience with young Aaron Roberts making his first team debut, and on a bright, sunny windless day the Foursomes were soon underway. Bedfordshire eventually won the morning session by 3½ to 1½ and, as we always say, it's very important to win this session which we did and fairly comfortably in the end.

Bedfordshire needed 4½ points from the ten singles to secure a win, and it was a tight match for most of the afternoon with only Miguel Moitas and Connor Boyle winning comfortably. Other wins from young Jack Turner, and the ever reliable Charlie O’Brien ensured at least a draw before Niall Johnston gained a half on the last for an excellent team win. Darren Close topped it off with a half on the last after being three down with three to play. A good team performance and a very good pre season, winning both matches and, as with all good squads, a headache for the Captain in picking the team for Skegness!

Our thanks to Kettering Golf Club and to everyone at Northamptonshire for looking after us so well, and to all our officials who came to support. There is no doubt the squad is much stronger than this time last year, but we need to take these performances into our league matches where the opposition will be much stronger. Philip Corke. County Captain.
