Bedfordshire were away to Hertfordshire at Moor Park Golf Club on Sunday 31st August 2011. The weather could not have been better for playing golf, and we were treated to some fantastic play throughout the day by both sides in a very close match.
The morning foursomes were halved 2-2 with Andy Taylor and Darren Close winning 4 & 3 ending the match 4 under par, and our youngest pair Matt Hill and Connor Boyle played extremely well to beat an experienced pair 2 & 1.
With everyone seemingly playing well we were optimistic of gaining a result in the afternoon singles, and until the penultimate match it looked as though a halved match was on the cards, but Hertfordshire holed a good putt on the last to deny Miguel Moitas, who had fought back from four down with five to play. There were good wins from Niall Johnston, Robert Sutton, and Blane Breheny.
This was probably the youngest team we have fielded for a long time and I am sure they will have learned a lot from the experience. Two of the side have come through the talent ID program, and we have three other young players who will come through in the next year and should be looking to push for a place next year.
Hertfordshire were, as usual, wonderful hosts at a lovely golf course. The only thng that could have improved the day was the result!
