Match report from Monday June 19th v Essex.

Following our excellent result v BB&O the Seniors had a quick turnaround for their 2nd league match v Essex away at Upminster Golf Club on Monday June 19th, a new course to all of us and one that was a little unique as it started and finished with par 3’s and the other 16 holes were a 200 yard walk across and down Hall Lane. This was always going to be a tough match given the strength of the Essex team as well as information being relayed amongst them with a dozen followers around the course, however we did get off to a fantastic start with wins in the top 2 matches for Dickie (60th birthday the following day) Harris and Colin Beard, Ian at 3 unfortunately lost however our new boy making his league debut Andy Stubbs had a convincing 5&4 victory a fantastic start to his Bedfordshire Senior career, this certainly left the following Essex entourage looking a little concerned and a bit quieter then they may have been. Sadly our 3-1 lead was soon overturned and no further points were gained, that said the final score of 7-3 to Essex was certainly not a reflection of how close the match still was with 3 pairs still left on the course. Steve Kavanagh had pulled back much of a large deficit only for his opponent to play 2 excellent shots into 15 & 16 to close the match out, Phill Gibson was involved in an epic tussle that he knew he had to win only to loose the 18th and finish 1 down and our tail gunner Cameron Large went down 2&1 following a very good up and down on 16 from his opponent who then went on to hit his 3 wood to 6’0” on the par 5 17th to close the match out with an eagle 3!! So although a disappointing result it was another solid performance against very strong opponents. We now have a break from league action and have in July our regional foursomes at Sheringham and the six man team also in Norfolk at Heasham Manor.
