Watford Wonders!!
U16 County Team triumph in league match against Hertfordshire & Middlesex at Aldenham Golf Club.
Following a very early start meeting at 6.30 am, we arrived at Aldenham Golf Club to pouring rain and loud thunder claps, expecting the start to be delayed. However, by the first tee time the weather had improved and the foursome’s pairs teed off on time. Facing two strong teams the boys performed & dovetailed brilliantly to win 3 matches to 1 against Hertfordshire, and 2 ½ to 1 ½ against Middlesex.
As the boys tucked into their pasta lunch the singles awaited!
Needing only 3 ½ points to beat Herts and 4 points to beat Middlesex the boys were confident & looking forward to a good afternoon. As the weather warmed up and the wind picked up, around a tight course, conditions could be a difficult. Once all the single matches were away it was obvious after 7 holes that the boys were carrying their morning form into the afternoon, as each match came through up or level in both matches, can they hold on and see the job through to the end. As we came towards the end of the round, matches were still alive as they approached the 16th , however, one by one the results started to come our way, and eventually the boys won the afternoon matches by 5 points to 3 against Herts and 7 ½ points to ½ against Middlesex.
Overall match score of an 8 - 4 win over Hertfordshire and a 10 - 2 win over Middlesex. Suffice to say that the journey home on the bus was a happy and joyful one!!
Congratulations to all the team on an outstanding team performance and result.
