Bedfordshire County Golf

South East Group Mens Qualifier

South Beds Golf Club hosted the England Golf's South East Group Mens County Qualifier on 13th July 2013. Teams of six from the 11 Counties in the South Eastern Group took part with the winner going forward to represent the South East Group in the national finals later in the year, so most of the finest amateur golfers in the south east were there.

This is a tough competition where all six player's scores count over two rounds of stratch strokeplay and was played in glorious, hot weather with just a very gentle breeze.

Despite much talk of a new course record after practice on Friday's practice round, the lowest individual score was 66 ( -5 ). This was from ex-Bedfordshire player John Kemp, who now plays out of Woburn Golf Club and therefore represents BB & O. A great round of golf, but the course stood up very well despite not being 'tricked up' and the lack of wind. The great majority of the players were scratch or plus handicap golfers and only 21 out of the 129 completed rounds were sub par

The course was presented in superb condition for the 66 competitiors, and staff in the Clubhouse and the Pro shop worked extremely hard to look after the players and the great numbers of supporters and officials from all the Counties.

Thank you to South Beds Golf Club for hosting the event so successfully and we wish the Team winners Hampshire every success in the national finals at Minchinhampton Golf Club on 27th - 29th September.

Full results of the Team competition can be found here.
