Bedfordshire County Golf

Beadlow Manor Juniors at Woodhall Spa

The Beadlow Manor trio of Harry Boyle, Luke Charalambous and Conner Penning represented both club and County as they made the trip to Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire for the Junior Champion Club on Sat 10 and Sun 11 August.  In addition to the competition itself all 30 counties competing were afforded the chance of a practice round on the Bracken course on the Friday, to try and fathom the undulating greens which are a constant feature of this course.  The competition rules in the final are stableford scoring off full handicap, with the two best scores each day counting for a team aggregate.  Harry Boyle (hcp 4) was first out for the team on Saturday and after a shaky start he played some excellent golf, including 4 birdies, to amass 39 points with Luke Charalambous (hcp 7) contributing the second score of 36 points to see Beadlow finish in a tie for 6th place on Day 1.  The playing conditions on Sunday were slightly trickier with a strengthening wind hampering good scores, especially for the later starters of which Beadlow were one.  Nonetheless solid scoring from Boyle, Charalambous and Conner Penning (hcp 7) saw 37, 35 and 32 points returned, respectively for Beadlow to end on 147 which saw them edged into 10th place on countback, with a stunning total of 162 from Gloucester GC winning by 7 shots from Ifield (Sussex) on 155.  This very creditable performance by Beadlow equalled the best by any Bedfordshire club at this national event since its inception, with Bedfordshire finishing ahead of a host of bigger counties.  The families of all concerned would like to thank the BCGU for their assistance to the cost of the trip.
