BUT Trophy Win
Bedfordshire were worthy winners of the BUT Trophy competition held yesterday (16th April 2014) at Cosby Golf Club in Leicestershire. This is an annual trophy competed for by Bedfordshire, Leicestershire & Rutland and Norfolk County Golf Unions at under 18's level.
Match Report
Bedfordshire took a strong U18’s 10 man side to face Norfolk and Leicestershire & Rutland to contest the BUT Trophy at Cosby Golf Club, Leicestershire. The undulating parkland course was in excellent condition, with sunny clear skies, light breeze and quick greens all was set for an exciting days golf.
Bedfordshire didn’t disappoint !!
The top match in the morning foursomes saw untried pair of Jack Hawksby and Ryan Fitt, play exceptional golf holing birdie and hole saving putts to win a creditable 1½ pts.
This set the tone for the rest of the Beds Team with all the pairs jelling well and enjoying the course conditions. When the last 2 Bedfordshire pairs of Will Bond & Luke Charnley and Thomas Mead & Harry Boyle won both their matches comfortably, Beds went into Lunch with 8pts to Leicestershire's 4 and Norfolk’s 3 - a commanding lead.
Bedfordshire's winning domination carried on in our first 3 singles matches of the afternoon: Sam Flannery led the way with a win and a halved match, Ryan Fitt and Alex Bithrey following up with 2 wins a piece.
Despite the odd defeat in the middle order once Luke Charnley secured a halved match and Will Bond a win over their Leicestershire opponents the trophy was on its way back to Bedfordshire for the first time since 2006.
In the last 3 matches we saw more good performances by Bradley Finch, Thomas Mead and Harry Boyle all adding more points to Bedfordshire's convincing tally. Special mention to debutantes Ryan Fitt and Thomas Mead with winning maximum points.
Overall a great team performance Well Done Lads !
