Youngsters lose in Leicestershire

Bedfordshire's youngest team of Under 12's & Under 14's travelled to Kilworth Springs Golf Club yesterday (29th May 2014) to play a team of similar age from Leicestershire.

Most of the matches were very close with some good golf being played by the youngsters. In the first of 2 singles matches team captain Jamie Gibbons seemed in complete control being 4 up after 9 nines, however with some superb putting over the last few holes culminating with a 25 footer being rammed into the hole by his opponent Nathan Garrett meant  Jamie lost one down. Jack Manley in the other singles match was overwhelmed by his opponent Will Watkins (a home club member) who wasn’t many over par on the front nine. In the first of the Fourball matches Mathew Scanlon & Michael Wright looked to have their match under control but lost a couple of holes towards the end to finish 1 down. Shea Morris and William Wright were 2 down with 2 to play and manged to win the last 2 holes for a good half in their match. Cameron Kilbride-Jamu and Ethan Deery had a disappointing spell round the middle and lost 5/4 in their match. In the final match it was nip and tuck all the way round and it looked like they were going to go level on the 17th but thanks to a short putt missed they remained 1 Up going into the difficult Par 3 18th, with Leicester safely down in 3 it meant George Garnham had a 25 footer from the fringe to settle the match which he calmly did.

Thanks must go to Immediate Past President, Clive Allen, for standing in on the day as Team Manager and to the parents who ferried the boys around all day, plus our hosts Leicestrshire and Kilworth Springs Golf Club.
