Boys' County Championship 2023

The Boys’ County Championship was held at Bedford and County Golf Club this year.

Harry Lake and Adam Khan led the way at the halfway stage with Dillon Basi one shot back. It was all very tight coming into the last few holes with Vikram Singh and Connor Tallentire making a charge. Harry Lake held his nerve on the last to secure the U18s Trophy and was the Overall winner.

Harry now goes on to represent Bedfordshire in the England Golf Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa in September.

Soon after this victory, Harry went to Fulford in Yorkshire to play in the R&A Boys’ Championship pre-qualifier. In blustery conditions and against an international field, Harry shot 3 over par which was in the mix as players struggled with the conditions and difficult course. In the end, however, he was just one shot short of making the top 15 spots that went onto to play in the main competition.

In the U16s Boys’ County Championship, Vikram Singh came out on top with Dillon Basi second, 2 shots adrift.  James Stocks, fresh from his great performance in the McGregor Trophy, shot an impressive second round to come third.

While the U18s and U16 were competing over 36 holes the U12s and U14s had extremely close battles over 18 holes. Both age categories went to a play-off.

Daniel Mernagh just edged out Kian Duffiled in the U14 play-off while Rhian Morjaria took the U12 title by defeating Jack Skelton on the second play-off hole. Worthy of note is the fact that Rhian’s win in the U12s category was the third in succession for him!

Well done to our winners and to everyone who competed on the day.
