BSGA run 2 successful events.

The BSGA had a highly successful fund raising day at Woburn recently on a rare dry day! Charlie O'Brien's family Charity Day raised a figure of approximately £3,700 which is effectively worth a 3-5 year sponsorship.

It was great to see so many ex schools players supporting us at Woburn, both playing, organising and bidding in an auction that raised £2,400 for 10 items.  Holly Aitchison, on the European Ladies Tour, came back to raise £400 with a 'Man or Mouse' Par 3 Challenge on the 3rd of the Dukes course.

The Handicap Championship was held on 2nd May at John O'Gaunt on the Carthagena course and on another dry day!!  We had a record entry of 90 youngsters and the age profile was also encouraging as 65 were 15 or under.  This is a significant shift from several years ago when it was the reverse with a majority of older players competing. It is also a reflection of the changes in golfing opportunities in schools and the academy programmes that have been set up outside as well. Next year we will be responding to the increased interest by holding extra events with North and South Qualifiers added to the programme before a final event.

The support from the host club was outstanding again, with the results being processed in record time and the presentation on schedule at 4-30 pm.  Similarly the support from Bedfordshire County Golf Union members was ever present and really helpful.

The full results can be viewed here.
