Bedfordshire County Golf

Seniors County Qualifying

The qualifying event was held at Moor Park Golf Club on the High course. The event consisted of six man teams playing 18 holes medal each day. There were eleven counties represented from the SEG and the event was a six man team but with 5 scores to count. Bedfordshire was represented by Harry Williams, Phil Corke, Steve Montague, Brendan Walsh, Les Sharman and Peter Jones. Reserve was Charlie Snelling. The course was set up with fairly slick greens and some very ‘interesting’ pin positions. Putting was a huge part of the game on these greens. For those who have played the High Course – and those who have not – there are quite a few par 4 holes that are somewhat long and very difficult to reach in two shots so ones long game had to be on form if a good result was to be had. At the end of the first days play, Bedfordshire had a fabulous result and finished in 5th position and consequently raised a few eyebrows but also enjoyed praise from members of other counties on our performance. The second day conditions were pretty similar to the first round but the stronger counties really turned it on and returned some fabulous results.  We all played our hearts out and by the end of the day had only dropped three positions to finish in 8th place, which was a terrific performance and result. The teams finishing beyond us were Middlesex, Sussex and Norfolk so we can all feel proud of our performance. My thanks to all the team for a great effort.
