Bedfordshire Seniors v Middlesex Seniors
At
Bedfordshire G.C
Bedfordshire played their final league match of the season at Bedfordshire G.C against
Middlesex on 3 rd of September in perfect conditions. There was barely a breeze until late
afternoon and the sun shone throughout the day.
The course was again presented in excellent condition with the greens at a reasonable
speed and very true, so once again thanks to John Gubb and his team.
All of the league matches played this season were very closely fought and certainly the
matches against Herts and Essex could have gone either way.Today’s game against
Middlesex was no different and there were some terrific matches to watch.
Chris Smith went off top against the very experienced Scott Galaway and went down 7/5
despite playing well tee to green. Scott made a number of birdies from the word go.
Richard Caunt playing in only his second county match went off at number 2 again against
a very strong opponent in Nick Lynes. Richard took control going 4 up through 5 with
some excellent golf only for Nick to fight back to all square after 14. Richard fought back
with a win on 16 and parred in to win 2 up, a terrific performance with some spectacular
driving from Richard.
Peter Mott was up for 14 holes against Bob Taylor who came on strong at the finish to win
2/1. Colin Moody had a ding dong battle with Bill Carey but Bill also prevailed 2/1.
So with 4 matches played Bedfordshire were 1-3 down and the captain who was on the
subs bench (buggy) due to injury was feeling pretty uncomfortable.
Simon Hollands beat a very resilient C.K Lee 3/1, Mark Stokes made a text book birdie on
the last to beat Dan Elliot 1 up. Dave Banwell made a terrific par to halve his match on
the final hole with Peter Marsh and with Bernie Bone and Steve Kavanagh already enjoying
a beer having beaten Dave Hale and Mark Stanton 5/3 and 6/5 respectively meant that
the captain was able to enjoy watching Andy Brown make a superb birdie on 18 having
also birdied 17 to win his match 2 up.
So our season is at an end and we have had some disappointment but when we look back
we have played six matches won three and lost three, performed very well in the six man
team at Hindhead and got off to a flying start in the foursomes at Sheringham.
All to play for next season with the Foursomes at Bedfordshire and with the squad getting
stronger all of the time.
We intend to play regular medal competitions during the winter months to sharpen up for
next season so watch out for the fist date.
Thanks to all for your support is has been great fun.
