Brief report from Norfolk Match.
Unfortunately due to the adverse weather our season opening 4 way match for the Stuart Goode Trophy was cancelled on Sunday 26th March, however the Seniors didn’t have to wait long to get out on the course with our 1st friendly of the year against Norfolk on Monday 27th. The match was played at Bedfordshire Golf Club which given the recent weather was presented in very good condition and as always we were looked after very well. The morning 9 holes Greensome’s did not start well with the first 3 matches going Norfolk’s way all by narrow margins, however this was soon turned around with the remaining 3 matches being won by Bedfordshire, with 4 of the 6 matches going to the final hole, so at lunch we sat at 3-3 and all to play for. The afternoon was an equally tight affair apart from a convincing win for Andy Whipp and Carmine Di Salvo and an equally convincing defeat for Steve Kavanagh who was basically playing single handed as I’d been struck down with gout, how I ended up with something often associated with overweight old Men I have no idea!!! After completion of 4 afternoon matches 2 wins each had been recorded so the score stood at 7-7, playing at 5 was the ever reliable Cameron Large with new boy Jeff Owen and they came in with their second win of the day leaving us just needing to avoid defeat in the last match, this was achieved with a hard fought half by Tracey White and Tony Crockford giving Bedfordshire a narrow victory 10-8. As always it was nice to meet up with our friends from Norfolk and an enjoyable match was had by all in good spirits, we wish them well for the coming season and will no doubt see many of them at Sheringham in July at the foursomes. We now move onto The Rhea Trophy v Cambridgeshire on Monday 17th April again at Bedfordshire Golf Club.
