The Seniors player their 2nd match of this season when we took on Cambridgeshire for the prestigious Rhea Trophy at Bedfordshire GC on Monday 17th April, we were as always well looked after by all at Bedfordshire Golf Club and an enjoyable day was had by all. Thanks to Steve Kavanagh for standing in at the last minute after Smudger Smith injured himself and Banners for soldiering on despite a severe case of the trots, the type that doesn’t involve a horse!!
The morning 9 holes of Greensomes went very well and even improved on last year and the team recorded 4 wins and 2 halved matches to take a 5-1 lead into lunch, it was always unlikely the previous years resounding 15 1/2 points could be matched but despite a couple of defeats a 7-5 afternoon win coupled with the excellent morning session resulted in a 12-6 victory for Bedfordshire and The Rhea Trophy being won for an unprecedented 3rd consecutive year. thank you and well done to all those who represented the County especially our 4 new players this season, Jeff Owen and Phill Gibson both making their 2nd appearance and playing for the 1st time Andy Stubbs and Gary Elliot-Cirigottis, a final thank you to Alan Kirby for standing in for me as Captain while I enjoyed some golf in France.
We now move onto our final friendly v Northamptonshire away on May 18th before our league season starts on June, with the new additions to our squad as well as another well known Bedfordshire boy of many decades about to come of age we are very much looking forward to what may well be a season when we could surprise some of our larger County opponents, fingers crossed for a successful and certainly no doubt an enjoyable season.
Andy Brown.
Seniors Captain.
